Faculty and Staff

Policy: All benefits eligible faculty and staff are entitled to receive a university ID card.

Procedure: An ID card may be obtained at the IDEAL Office, located at 42 University Drive, on, or after, your employment start date (Note: Faculty may obtain their ID cards beginning two weeks prior to their start date, if needed). Please have your LIN (Lehigh Identification Number), and another form of ID available (driver's license, passport, etc.). Please submit a photo ahead of time (see Photo Submission Information).

Adjunct Professors

Policy: Adjuncts are entitled to receive a university ID card.

Procedure: Adjuncts are encouraged to email a copy of their offer letter, along with a photo (see ID Photo Submission Information), to the IDEAL Office. A reply email will inform you when your ID card is ready to be picked up. Please bring another form of ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) with you when picking up your university ID card.

Visiting Research Engineers/Scientists/Scholars

Policy: Visiting faculty, visiting research engineers, visiting research scientists, and visiting research scholars are entitled to receive a university ID card.

Procedure: Visitors should email a copy of their offer letter, along with a photo (see Photo Submission Information), to the IDEAL Office. If you have not received your LIN (Lehigh Identification Number) with your offer letter, wait until you receive your LIN and it is submitted to the ID office. You will then receive an email to inform you when your ID card is ready to be picked up. Please bring another form of ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) with you when picking up your university ID card.

Wage Employees, Contractors, Consultants

Policy: Wage employees, outside contractors, and consultants are not entitled to receive a university ID card.

Spouse/Domestic Partner

Policy: All spouses/domestic partners of a benefits eligible faculty or staff person are entitled to receive a university ID card.

Procedure: An ID card may be obtained at the IDEAL Office, located at 42 University Drive, on, or after, your spouse/domestic partner’s employment start date, provided Human Resources has the appropriate information and it has been updated in their system. Please have your LIN (Lehigh Identification Number), your spouse/domestic partner’s LIN, and a form of ID available. You should submit a photo ahead of time (see Photo Submission Information), and you will be notified when your ID card is available.

Retired Faculty and Staff

Policy: All benefits eligible faculty and staff who have retired are entitled to retain their university ID card, or receive a new university ID card.

Procedure: In order to obtain a new card, simply bring your current ID card to the IDEAL Office, located at 42 University Drive. If you wish a new photo for your ID card, please submit a photo prior to exchanging your ID card (see Photo Submission Information).

Students – Graduate and Undergraduate

Policy: All currently registered full time, or part time, students are entitled to receive a university ID card.

Procedure: First Year undergraduate students living in university housing, and who have submitted their ID photo in advance, will receive their ID card on move-in day. First Year undergraduate students not living in university housing, and who have submitted their ID photo in advance, will receive their ID cards from the First-Year Experience Office. First Year undergraduate students who have not submitted their photos in advance, and/or those students not receiving their cards at move-in or at the First-Year Experience Office, should contact the IDEAL Office.

Graduate students and summer undergraduate students must wait one day after registering for classes to obtain a university ID card at the IDEAL Office, located at 42 University Drive. However, no ID cards will be released prior to one (1) month before the start of classes for the semester the student is registered for, with the exception of those students living in university housing. Graduate students must submit a photo ahead of time (see Photo Submission Information), and will be notified when their ID card is available for pick up.

Distance Education Students

Policy: To qualify for a Distance Education ID Card, you must be an active student enrolled in a Lehigh University distance education degree program.

Procedure: To request your Distance Education ID Card, contact the Office of Distance Education or go to http://distance.lehigh.edu/current-students/distance-education-id-card

Upon graduation or withdrawal from the university, or upon termination of employment, your ID card is no longer valid. ID cards remain the property of Lehigh University, and must be surrendered to the University upon request.
